The Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, on Wednesday formally launched the National Security Guard hub in the city. As NSG flag was unfurled by the Chief Minister, Dr YS. Rajasekhar Reddy, the black cats roared NSG ki jai and Bharat Mata ki jai.
Mr Chidambaram said that the regional centre to come up at Ibrahimpatnam will have 5,150 commandos to fight terrorism and hijacking. The centre will be a replica of the one at Manesar in Haryana, he said. Training will be imparted at this centre to South Indian police forces, quick reaction teams and other anti-terror forces. “Apart from the hub, a regional centre will also be set up in a few years,” he added. Sources said that State government had agreed to give away land in Ibrahimpatnam for this.
It is close to the Rachakonda hills that were once the safe haven of Maoists. Police had totally wiped out the Rachakonda dalam and had once thought of converting the area to into a firing range for the army.
