CM clarifies on “collective farming”

30 June 2009, Hyderabad.

With strategic inputs from the renowned agriculturist M S Swaminathan, the C M is pressing ahead for revolutionary reforms in the farm sector. Heading his list is the concept of “collective farming.” At the heart of this concept is the simple idea of “economies of scale.” The CM intends to bring the benefits of mechanization and technology to small and marginal farmers in the state. The C M reasons that though there have been tremendous advancements in the agricultural front the small and marginal farmers are not able to enjoy them due to their prohibitive costs. He intends to bring this cost down by getting more and more small and marginal farmers to adopt these advancements through “collective farming” processes. Collective farming has been a huge hit in resource starved regions like Israel. However the CM hastened to add that no farmer will be forced into this social experiment. Only those who are willing to come in on their won are welcome to adopt this practice.
