After a long gap, reputed producer and Dada Saheb Phalke award winner, Dr. D Rama Naidu has produced a Telugu movie. The movie is ‘Nenem Chinna Pillana’ and it has Rahul Ravindran of Andala Rakshashi fame and former Miss India Tanvi Vyas in the lead roles. This family entertainer has been directed by Sunil Kumar Reddy. Let us see how it is.

Story :-

Swapna (Tanvi Vyas) belongs to an orthodox joint family and she is brought up in a very restrictive environment. Fed up with the restrictions, she convinces her dad and goes abroad for further studies. There, she happens to meet Krish (Rahul Ravindran), who comes across as a carefree guy. Krish believes in living life on his own terms and this quality endears him to Swapna.

Both of them spend some quality time and soon fall in love. Swapna returns to India for a family function and brings Krish along with her. During the function, an ugly incident causes a rift between Krish and Swapna’s family members.

Krish also finds out a bitter truth about his life and this information upsets him. He sheds his playful lifesyle and starts working hard. What truth did Krish find out? Why did he start working so hard? Does he end up marrying Swapna?

That is the story of ‘Nenem Chinna Pillana’.

Plus Points:-

Rahul Ravindran is the major highlight of this film. He looks good and does his role convincingly. Rahul showcases his funny side in the first half, and at the same time shows immense maturity during the climax.

The first half of the film is decent. Comedian L B Sriram brings in a few laughs with his butler English. The interval block and climax episode have been conceived well. Sarath Babu and Amani are ok.

Minus Points:-

Major drawback of the film is its second half. There is too much melodramatic sentiment in the second half and the film gets bogged down. Most of the twists shown in the film are highly predictable.

Screenplay in the second half goes for a toss. The sentiment scenes remind you of the films from the 80’s and 90’s. Tanvi Vyas looks quite old in certain frames and her performance is quite bad.

Comedy track featuring Ali and Venu Madhav in the second half looks forced. Two songs in the second half also spoil the flow of the film. Entertainment quotient is also quite low.

Technical Aspects:-

Camera work is pretty decent in the film. M M Srilekha’s music is just about OK, but her background score is a lot better. Editing is quite mediocre and it is not as sharp as it should have been.

Sunil Kumar Reddy manages to entertain in the first half but he fails miserably as a director during the second half. Dialogues by Satyanand are good, particularly during the climax. Production values in the film look good.

Verdict:-

‘Nenem Chinna Pillana’ is a routine and boring family drama. A decent first half is let down by a heavy dose of sentiment and melodrama in the second half. Rahul Ravindran has given a good performance, but that is not enough to salvage this film.
