Continuing with the trend of small budget movies, yet another film which has generated some curiosity with its interesting trailers is Paakashala. This thriller has hit the screens today and let’s see how it turns out to be.

Story:

The film starts off with a Police officer set for his retirement. The daring officer who often cracks all his cases is unsuccessful in dealing with one particular case which is highly mysterious. Loosing no hope, he assigns this case to one of his subordinates Vikram who is in suspension at the moment.

Vikram takes things in his hands and starts dealing the case in his own style. Twist in the tale arises when he comes to know that he is indirectly involved in the case as well.

What is this mysterious case ? How is Vikram connected to all this? and Will he be successful in solving the mystery ? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus points:

First half is one of the assets of the movie. The entire story of the film is set in the backdrop of cannibalism. Even though it is quite an unconventional theme in Tollywood, it has been set well here.

Keerthi Chowdary as Devika pulls off her role well and does her job decently. Arpitha Enny as Suneesha performed well in her limitations. These two ladies carried the entire film on their shoulders.

Some comedy scenes in the first half evoke decent laughs. The twist which comes during the interval is pretty good. The guy who plays the role of Vikram and the remaining cast are just about ok.

Minus Points:

Story of the film is quite predictable. Second half is the major drawback and lack of known faces goes against the film big time. The proceedings move on a snail piece and take their own time to unveil.

The flash back episode which comes after the strong interval twist is quite stale and disappoints big time. Two songs, one during the first half and the other in the second obstruct the flow of the film completely. The background score is yet another let down and irritates big time.

Technical aspects:

Cinematography is below par as the entire movie is showcased in a dim and dull light. Music is also a major let down and so was the background score. Editing is below par as many scenes could have been chopped off easily. Production values are poor.

Coming to the director Phani Kiran Siriki, even though he chose a different concept, he has failed in his execution in most part of the film. He should have taken care with his screenplay as it looked very sluggish. He could not generate enough thrills even though the story had much scope.

Verdict:

On the whole, Paakashala is a hugely predictable thriller with a just few laughs here and there. Except for the performances of the two leading ladies, this film is filled with problems like dragged out screenplay and a outdated execution. You can safely ignore this film this weekend and wait for it to come on television.
