Manchu Manoj has teamed up with Sana Khan and Kriti Kharbandha for the movie ‘Mr. Nookayya’. The film has been directed by Ani Kanneganti and D.S.Rao is the producer. Music has been scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Let us see how the film is.

Story :

Nookayya (Manoj), who calls himself Nokia, is an expert cell phone thief. He has a good heart though and together with his friends Nampally ( Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao) and Chee Chaa ( Vennela Kishore ), he also takes care of orphans and abandoned kids. He is deeply in love with Sana, who is a pub waitress. Sana wants Nokia to settle down in life with a nice car, lots of cash and a house in order to marry. A desperate Nokia starts hunting for ways to achieve these things in life.

On a separate note, Anu ( Kriti Kharbandha) and Kiran (Raja ) are a newly married couple. On a trip to Bangalore, Kiran gets kidnapped by a gang (headed by Murali Sharma) and they demand a ransom of 2 Crores. In a curious twist of fate, the paths of both Nokia and Anu cross and they are betrayed by the people they trust. They must now team up to save themselves and Kiran. Will they succeed in their endeavours? Will Nokia succeed in getting married to Sana? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points :

Manoj is outstanding in the role of Nokia. He has worked extremely hard for the movie and his stunt sequences are highly entertaining. One must appreciate Manoj for taking up such dangerous stunts when he could have simply used dupes. He has perfected a new style of dialogue delivery from ‘Bindaas’ onwards and he is using that to good effect. His comedy timing is good.

Sana Khan has a short role but she is devastatingly beautiful, especially in the ‘Pista Pista’ song. Kriti Kharbandha looks cute and she is ok. She gets good screen time in this movie. Vennela Kishore and Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao are fine as Manoj’s sidekicks in the film. Raja surprises in the role of Kiran. His characterization should hopefully open new avenues for him as an actor. Ahuti Prasad entertains in a brief role.

Stunt sequences will stand out in the movie. They are of a very high standard and action film fans will love them. A very brief pseudo car race sequence has also been shot very well. The movie has a very stylish and urbane feel right from frame one. The titles, the background score, the picturization of songs and the camera angles contribute to this effect.

Minus Points :

The movie keeps losing tempo and this is especially evident in the first half. Some sequences are needlessly prolonged and tighter screenplay would have worked wonders. Murali Sharma is routine and does not have much to do. There is nothing new or novel in the story and except for a few twists, you basically will know what is going to happen next. Brahmanandam is wasted in a highly useless role.

Brahmaji must stop accepting such ridiculous roles which are an insult to his ability and amazing comedy timing. Vennela Kishore is disappointing.

There are some loopholes in the script, especially in the second half and the placement of songs leaves much to be desired. The characterization of Sana could have been much better and her romantic track with Manoj has not been dealt with properly.

The extremely stylish taking and the themes chosen for the songs will appeal to A center crowds but it remains to be seen what appeal they will hold for B and C center crowds.

Technical Aspects :

The movie has been made with very high technical values and the production values are rich. Cinematography is excellent and some of the scenes are truly glorious to watch. Editing could have been slightly better. Dialogues are ok and background music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is decent.

Choreography of stunts deserves special mention and this will surely stand out. SFX work is neat. A more capable director would have really elevated the film to a new level.

Verdict :

Mr. Nookayya is an extremely stylish flick with a lot of hard work behind it. Manoj’s superb performance, rich technical values, stylish action sequences and Sana’s glamour will prove to be assets for the film. A tighter screenplay and better narration would have worked wonders. With the A center style of taking and the exam season, we will have to wait and watch for public reaction. Go take a look at Mr. Nookayya if you love slick action films.
