Collection King Dr Mohan Babu and maverick movie maker Ram Gopal Varma have come up with the Rayalseema faction thriller ‘Rowdy’. The film has released today across the world . Let us see if the film can live up to the intense pre-release expectations.
Story :
Anna Garu (Mohan Babu) is a feared and respected leader of the masses in Rayalaseema. He is the ultimate authority in the region when it comes to taking decisions. Many political leaders and officials operate according to his wishes.
He has two sons, Bhushan and Krishna ( Vishnu Manchu) . While Krishna is an obedient and intelligent guy, Bhushan is an arrogant, cruel and crooked son. Naturally, Anna Garu doesn’t like Bhushan and mistreats him.
This is exploited by some powerful enemies of Anna Garu ( Industrialist KR, Vedantham Murthy and Jeeva). Anna Garu is against their plan of coming up with a major project in the area and they entice Bhushan with promises of power and money, to kill Anna Garu. This has unexpected consequences. What happens next? Will Anna Garu survive? That forms the story of ‘Rowdy’
Plus Points :
This film is a Mohan Babu Masterclass in many ways. With deadly venom in his voice and a serious expression, Mohan Babu steals the show with his immense screen presence. This role is a cakewalk for him.
Vishnu is very good in the role of Krishna. He looks macho in the action sequences and he has supported Mohan Babu well. Jayasudha is a class actor and she is very convincing as the loving mother.
Tanikella Bharani has an interesting character as Vedantham Murthy. Mohan Babu’s associates like Gaja have been showcases well in the film.
Shanvi is ok as Vishnu’s love interest. The film’ short length and high voltage action scenes keep things going. Interval block is very good and it is a treat to watch Mohan Babu and Vishnu together in the same action episode.
Minus Points :
The film’s appeal may be limited in B and C centers as elements like comedy and ‘mass masala’ do not have a place in the movie.
The story is well known by now to movie buffs. There are remarkable similarities to Amitabh’s ‘Sarkar’, both in terms of character treatment and story line.
Some of the emotions could have been handled in a better way. The death of a lead character does not have the required shock value.
Technical Aspects :
Cinematography is decent and some of the action scenes have been shot well. Re- recording work is good.
Dialogues have good power and punch. RGV has done an ok job in the direction department. He has not shown his ‘paithyam’.
Verdict :
‘Rowdy’ is an intense action thriller that makes for a good watch. If you have seen Godfather, the impact may be a little less. The movie’s appeal might be limited to A centers alone. Watch the film for Mohan Babu.
