So, continuing the series of reviewing movies and shows during the lockdown period, our today’s pick is the Malayalam hit film Driving License. Directed by Lal Jr, this film is available on Amazon Prime.
What’s it about?
Hareendran(Prithviraj) is a posh and rich film star who loves fast cars. To shoot for a particular car chase, the unit asks Hareendran for his driving license but the superstar comes to know that he has lost it. He asks the help of his politician friend who assigns an officer Kuruvilla (Suraj Venjarammoodu). Things become super exciting as Kuruvilla is also a solid fan of Hareendran. But in one of the meetings between Hareendran and Kuruvilla at the RTO office, things go horribly wrong and there erupts an ego war between the cop and superstar. The rest of the story is as to what happens in the due course of time between these two men.
What’s good?
The conflict point in the film is quite unique and has been set nicely in the present scenario. Prithviraj, as usual, is superb in the role of a brash superstar. The way he shows his brash and frustrating side in the film looks quite good. But the actor who takes the cake is Suraj. He as a big fan of the star who later turns against him has done a good job. His role has emotions, good comedy, and witty dialogues.
The comedy angle in the film is quite good. The scenes between both the stars have been written so well that makes the viewing interesting. The BGM and production values of the film look quite good. The situational comedy generated from Prithviraj’s anger issues is showcased well.
What’s bad?
There are a few confrontation scenes between two actors that have been stretched a bit too much. The film starts off on a slow note and takes a lot of time to reach the actual conflict point. Also, the family stories of both the stars in the film are not that engaging.
Final Word :
Overall, Driving License is a film that has an interesting premise and some good funny moments. Prithiviraj is superb in the film and the engaging narration also helps the viewing. But the predictable story and some overstretched scenes come up like speed break breakers. If you ignore this aspect, this film ends as a decent watch during this lockdown.
