Nandamuri Balakrishna’s action drama Daaku Maharaaj, directed by Bobby Kolli, has finally hit theaters today, riding high on massive expectations. Dive into the review to see if the film lives up to the hype.

Story:

In a remote corner of India, MLA Thirumala Naidu (Ravi Kishan) secretly grows cocaine on the tea estate of Krishna Murthy (Sachin Khedekar). When Krishna Murthy discovers the illegal activities, he confronts the MLA and warns him to stop. Amid this chaos, Nanaji (Balakrishna) enters Krishna Murthy’s life as a humble driver, caring for his granddaughter Vaishnavi (Veda Agarwal) and protecting the family from danger. He stands as a shield against the MLA and the Thakurs, who are deeply involved in the cocaine trade. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra police are on a mission to arrest Nanaji. Who is Nanaji, and what is his past? Why are the police chasing him? What secrets does his backstory hold? Did he once have a family? How is Balawanth Singh Thakur (Bobby Deol) tied to these events? And most importantly, who is Daaku Maharaaj? The movie unravels all these mysteries.

Plus Points:

Balayya deserves praise for picking roles that suit his age. As Nanaji, he is convincing, and as Daaku Maharaaj, he is fierce and intense. He carries both roles with ease. The elevations for his character are well-done, and fans definitely have a lot to cheer. Unlike his earlier films, Balayya uses fewer punch dialogues, which is a refreshing change for his fans.

Thaman’s background score is a major highlight. His music during the action scenes is energetic and gives goosebumps.

Pragya Jaiswal and Shraddha Srinath have limited screen time, but their roles are impactful. The child artist Veda Agarwal also performs well.

The action sequences are well-crafted, adding strength to the narrative. The first half is packed with entertainment that fans expect from a Balayya movie. The emotional connection between Balayya and the girl child works well, especially in the second half.

Minus Points:

The story is predictable, and the writing focuses more on presentation than freshness. This lack of originality makes the second half feel less engaging.

Bobby Deol, despite being a sought-after villain, gets a role that lacks depth. His character could have been written better to match Balayya’s intensity, creating a stronger face-off.

Some characters, like Shine Tom Chacko, Urvashi Rautela, and Chandini Chowdary, don’t add much value to the story. Also, the absence of comedy might disappoint some viewers.

The screenplay works well in the first half but feels slow in the second half. The climax could have been stronger for a better impact.

Technical Aspects:

Director Bobby succeeds in showcasing Balakrishna as a powerful yet subtle character. He delivers what fans expect in a Balayya movie. However, more focus on the story and screenplay, especially in the second half, would have improved the film.

Vijay Karthik Kannan’s visuals are stunning, and Thaman’s music adds richness to the movie. Niranjan and Ruben’s editing is good, but trimming a few scenes in the second half would have helped the flow. The action choreography and dialogue in the fight scenes are perfect for fans.

Verdict:

On the whole, Daaku Maharaaj is an enjoyable action drama, though its story is predictable. Director Bobby does a good job of presenting Balayya neatly and stylishly. The action sequences and emotional moments are well executed. However, drawbacks include the predictable plot, underdeveloped characters, and a slower second half. Despite these issues, the movie is entertaining and worth watching for its mix of action and emotion.
