Exclusive interview : Sumanth – I am now game for negative roles as well

Hero Sumanth is back in form after the success of his latest film Malli Raava. The film has been declared a hit and on this occasion, we caught up with him for an exclusive interview where he shared a lot of interest aspects of his career. Here is the transcript.

What kind of response did you get for the film?

Touchwood, the response has been quite good. After a long time, I heard such good reviews for my film which made me feel very happy. The film has completed three weeks and has done quite well especially in the A centers. All those who saw the film are saying that Malli Raava is my best film to date which is a huge compliment to me.

What attracted you towards this film in the first place?

Initially, I listened to the script like any other film. Halfway through the narration, I got a feeling that this film is quite different. Also, the manner in which Gautam narrated me the story impressed me big time. The simplicity of the story and the pain in my role enabled me to say yes to the film right away.

What kind of preparations did you go through for your role?

I underplayed my emotions for the most part and kept things quite realistic. I got very emotional in many scenes as the way things were written and narrated automatically pushed me to give a better performance.

What did you think clicked on the film?

The audience went in with zero expectations and were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful content they got to see. Plus the music is yet another asset which pulled the crowds to the theaters. Also, the way the child episode was shot and the manner which the screenplay was done attracted everyone big time.

What kind of films do you like the most?

Drama is my most favorite genre. I love watching romantic and action dramas a lot. There should be an undercurrent of emotions in every film and I personally like seeing such movies.

Why do you do such fewer films?

Touchwood, I always had five to six offers in hand all the time. But 90% of them were useless. Also, I am the one who does not do films for money. Luckily, I come from a well-off family and whatever I earned, I have invested it quite wisely.

Now that you have made a strong comeback, how will you plan your career?

Times have changed in Telugu cinema in a big way. Path-breaking films like Arjun Reddy are being made and this is a very exciting time to be in Tollywood. I would like to expand my skills and even do supporting and negative roles which are author backed. If the director and my role are good, I don’t mind doing them.

Any particular director that impressed you the most in 2017?

It would undoubtedly be Sandeep Reddy of Arjun Reddy fame. He hardly put a foot wrong in his narration and made a film with all his heart.

About your upcoming film?

I am currently working in the direction of a debutante Anil Kumar. My role will be quite different to that of Malli Raava as I play a media photographer with negative shades.

Finally, any message for our readers?

I would like to thank each one of them who loved and appreciated my film Malli Raava. I hope that their support continues with me and my film career in the future as well.

With that, we ended the exclusive interview with Sumanth and wished him the best of luck for his future.
