Dulquer Salmaan and Actress Aishwarya Lekshmi starrer King of Kotha is up for a grand release in theaters this Thursday. On this occasion, we had the privilege to sit down with Aishwarya Lekshmi, the film’s lead actress, for an insightful interview. Here’s the transcript
How did you become a part of this project?
During the filming of Matti Kusthi (Gatta Kusthi in Tamil), I had the pleasure of narration from Abhilash N. Chandran, the writer of King of Kotha. He not only outlined my character but also unveiled the entire storyline. I found the concept intriguing and promptly agreed to be part of it. The project’s scale and the opportunity to collaborate with Dulquer Salmaan were equally enticing.
Could you provide insight into your character in King of Kotha?
Kotha is a fictional town setting. While Dulquer Salmaan takes the lead, I portray Tara, his love interest. Although my screen time is modest, Tara’s presence significantly influences the narrative. If Tara’s character were removed, the movie would feel incomplete. Besides my character, the film’s grand scale promises to deliver an entirely fresh, immersive experience that will captivate and enthral you.
How was your experience working with Dulquer Salmaan?
Dulquer is an exceptional co-star, always approachable and grounded. Despite being the producer, he dedicates himself relentlessly and interacts seamlessly with everyone on set, fostering a sense of long-standing familiarity. His buoyant disposition continues to astonish me. We share a close rapport; I often seek his insights and discuss my upcoming ventures.
Tell us about your collaboration with debutant Abhilash Joshiy
Abhilash Joshiy possesses a remarkable grasp of the movie’s nuances. He provides detailed explanations, ensuring the actors deliver the desired outcomes. His visionary approach and expansive perspective are extraordinary, and his reputation will soar with the release of King of Kotha. His on-set demeanour is quite different from that of his father, Joshiy, a well-known director, I have a good rapport with.
Why haven’t you taken on any Telugu projects since God Se?
I’ve always been open to Telugu films and am eager to embrace diverse characters. Be it bold portrayals akin to Samantha’s role in Oo Antava Maawa song or layered performances like Keerthy Suresh’s in Mahanati, I relish the opportunity to tackle challenging roles.
Who are your favourite co-actresses?
I’ve admired Keerthy Suresh’s work in Dasara; her performance was exceptional. Samantha is also among my personal favourites; her allure radiates even in scenes that demand displays of anger or emotional depth. Sreeleela’s phenomenal dancing abilities stand out, and Sai Pallavi’s prowess as a dancer and performer is exceptional. I was captivated by her role in Fidaa.
Any aspirations to continue producing?
Currently, my focus is solely on acting. My priority is to partake in captivating projects. I will only produce ventures if I am completely convinced, and directing isn’t on my current agenda.
What lies ahead in your future projects?
An upcoming Tamil film is in the pipeline; details will be unveiled shortly. I’ll share any news regarding new projects once I commit to them.
