Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD is doing phenomenal business across regions. The movie, directed by Nag Ashwin, features Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. Are you satisfied with the film’s result?
I am very much delighted. We received superb reports from Telugu states, Mumbai, Madras, and Bengaluru. I had an expectation in my mind, and the movie’s performance matched it. Hats off to Nag Ashwin. I am very, very happy.
Will you make suggestions to your directors regarding the script?
From the moment this project took off, I provided the team with all the resources that they needed. I won’t interfere in creative discussions. Since my first film, Yeduruleni Manishi, I have always listened to my directors and given them what they wanted. But apart from this, I won’t discuss any other topic. Everyone is aware of this.
Did you plan this as a two-part film right from the beginning?
Yes. When Nagi told this story, we thought of making a second part. After Kamal Haasan Garu came on board, we went ahead with the sequel decision. Kamal Garu played a phenomenal role.
What kind of stress and tension did you go through for Kalki?
We believed it would be good if we released the movie in mid-summer. However, we had no option but to postpone the film from May 9. Then we thought June 27 would be the right date. Nagi, Swapna, and Priyanka saw the first copy. God blessed us with this memorable success.
Your daughters have now made a world-class film. How are you feeling as a father?
I am a fortunate man. My daughters Swapna and Priyanka are taking the production house to the next level. As a father, I am feeling very proud.
How was the cooperation of Prabhas?
He has been a fabulous support. Without Prabhas, Kalki 2898 AD would have not been possible. People call him darling, and he is a lovely person to work with.
How many movies will be made in the Kalki Cinematic Universe? Also, could you tell us about your future projects?
At this moment, the sequel will be the last film in the universe. But if the script offers scope, then we will think. We have a film with Roshan. Also, we are doing a movie with Dulquer Salmaan.
