Interview : Devi Sri Prasad – Boyapati will surprise you with Jaya Janaki Nayaka

Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad is one musician who keeps giving hit after hit. His music for Jaya Janaki Nayaka has also come out quite well and on this occasion, we caught up with him for a detailed interview.

What attracted you towards this film?

This is my fourth film with Boyapati and as soon as he narrated the script, I was taken aback as he revealed a love story with his trademark kind of action. The story itself had a lot of scope for music and I okayed the project right away.

How different was it composing for this film?

Boyapati has a clear vision for everything and he explained all the situations clearly before hand. He even told me as to how a few songs will be shot. The way my compositions are shot look top class and super rich on screen.

How do you differentiate between mass and class films when you compose?

I don’t find any difference. For me, it is only the situation and what kind of music the director wants. Sometimes, I even suggest them to use stuff which will elevate the proceedings and they oblige happily.

Do you have a fear whether people will receive your tunes or not?

Well, I used to have it earlier but not anymore. The listeners have evolved a lot and they are ready to accept all kinds of songs. As I have been working for long, both my listeners and directors have showcased immense faith and give the entire responsibility to me.

About Jaya Janaki Nayaka’s background score and music?

The music has come out quite well and the fights will have some heavy duty background score in true Boyapati style. As it’s my fourth film with him, he gave me free hand and the output will surely be liked by all.

Why don’t you compose for Bollywood films?

Bollywood music has changed heavily and there are four to five composers working on a film. To date, I get a call every single day to compose a number which I don’t like. I feel that I should enjoy the journey of a film and work on the entire album.

About doing only big budget films?

I never believe in such things. Both Kumari 21F and Nenu Local were low budget films. As said before, for me it’s only the story and director’s vision which matter.

Off late you are also writing lyrics. Why?

I have been doing that for many years now and it is coming out nicely. For Khaidi No 150, I wrote two songs as no lyric writer was available at the last minute. I don’t take it seriously and do it only for fun.

Finally, about Jaya Janaki Nayaja’s output?

The film has come out quite well and I am very confident that it will be a good hit. For the first time, Boyapati has tried something new which will impress everyone. Also, Srinivas has performed extremely well and he will go a long way in his career.
