Naga Chaitanya has joined hands with his uncle Venkatesh for Venky Mama which will release this Friday. On this occasion, we caught up with him for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.
How did this project materialize?
It was my grand father’s dream to do a film with me and Venky Mama. Things did not work out initially but when Bobby got this story we felt that it would be apt for us to do the film. After a lot of changes in the script, we finally locked the film and went on floors.
How was it working with Venkatesh for the first time?
I did a small scene with him in Premama. But this film is a different ball game altogether. I used to behave in a particular manner with him at home and here on the sets, it was completely different. I had to match up to his comedy and then give my lines. For the first few days, I was tensed and was only observing him on the sets. Once we clicked with our chemistry, the shoot went on a very smooth note.
Tell us about your role in the film?
I come to the village Bheemavaram during my holidays and spend time with Venky Mama. My role also has an army backdrop and how it is set from Bheemavaram to Kashmir through my role is the best part of the film.
Tell us about the highlight of the film?
Sacrifice is the most common thing that happens in any family. The same happens here as a key sacrifice aspect brings the twist in the film and takes the proceedings to the next level. This emotion will be the major highlight of the film. Also, the horoscope factor in the film will be a big highlight
How do you treat Venky Mama as a film?
I feel that I am playing a supporting role beside Venkatesh in Venky Mama. I don’t treat is a multi-starrer as this film is quite personal and want it to click big time for two of my uncles.
What is the whole army angle in the film?
I play an army officer in the film after a point. How I become one and do action was the biggest challenge. Till now, my action avatar has not clicked but this film has a good action backdrop and I hope things will click this time.
About Suresh Babu as a producer?
Suresh Babu is a very hands-on producer and is very up to date about every aspect of film making. He is a very strict producer and is always around the sets. He had a bigger responsibility and I have learned the art of filmmaking from him.
You have worked with both Nagarjuna and Venkatesh. How do you feel?
Both of them have completely different personalities on and off-screen. They have their own special qualities and do different films and believe in a different school of acting.
Update on Shekhar Kammula’s film?
We have shot 40% of the film and it has come out quite well as of now. I am excited about this film which will change my career in a different direction.
