Interview: Pavan Sadineni – What you have all seen in Dayaa season 1 is just a glimpse

The latest web series Dayaa directed by Pavan Sadineni, has become the talk of the town. It is currently streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. The series stars JD Chakravarthy, Eesha Rebba, Ramya Nambessan, Kamal Kamaraj, and others in crucial roles. Produced by Srikanth Mohta and Mahendra Soni under the banner of SVF Productions, the show is getting superb response all over. In this regard, the talented director shared his happiness with the media, and here is the transcript.

How is the response for the show?

It has been overwhelming. People have been watching our web series since the start of streaming, and it felt like watching the first show of a film on the first day. I am getting many calls and messages from the industry. People started to call JD Chakravarthy as Dayaa. I wrote the story based on the Bengali web series Taqdeer. But the Bengali version doesn’t have a broad story like Dayaa.

Whose decision was it to cast JD Chakravarthy?

It was Hotstar’s decision to select JD Chakravarthy for the character of Dayaa. But he is both an actor and director. I wondered where he would be involved in the story and thought to say no. But he understood what I would do after I spoke to him on the phone. A director’s vision can be understood by JD’s experience. I sent the story, and he okayed it even without reading it.

Could you tell us about Dayaa 2?

What you have all seen in Dayaa is just a glimpse. Dayaa and Alivelu will be the main characters. Season 2 of Dayaa will have the actual story and twists. We started Dayaa with very few resources and thought of expanding the span if season 1 gets a good response. As expected, we are getting a solid response and will make the second season in a bigger span.

Didn’t you feel the story should have been made as a film?

Even if the story of this web series was made into a film, it would not have been possible to screen it in such detail with many characters. Web shows give creative freedom, and no scene was set anywhere unnecessarily. Some scenes are said to be difficult, but they are meant to show the pain and struggle of the characters.

Could you tell us about your future projects?

Season 2 of Dayaa will be much bigger than the first season. The entire script is ready, and once everything is done, we will take it to the sets. From now on, I will also do web shows along with films. I have a film that will be produced by Geetha Arts. It will have a big cast, and it is my dream project. More details about the cast and crew will be revealed shortly.
