Interview : Shanmukha Prasanth – In my view, writer is the actual hero

Young and talented actor Suhas who has been doing different roles, will be next seen in Writer Padmabhushan. The movie is set for a grand release on February 3, 2023. It is directed by Shanmukha Prasanth and is produced by Anurag Reddy, Sharath Chandra, and Chandru Manohar. Ahead of the release, we interacted with the film’s director, and here is the transcript.

What’s the inspiration for Writer Padmabhushan?

I wanted to show something new in the film. But again, I don’t want to experiment completely. My intention is to add new points to my story. My lead character in the movie is a librarian, and we designed a new atmosphere around his role.

What’s your take on showcasing a writer as a hero?

In my view, writer is the actual hero. No matter who the actor is, at the end of the day, it is the content that matters. It is my opinion, and it was reflected in the movie. I keep interacting with writers often and try to do something from my end for them. I firmly believe that the story is the hero of a movie.

What is the meaning of Padmabhushan in the film’s title?

The protagonist aims to become a prominent writer, and you need to see the film if he has achieved his dream or not. Padmabhushan is the character’s name. Ours is a small film, and we need to pack it beautifully with some uniqueness. Hence we named the film Padmabhushan. It is in no way related to any awards.

Can you tell more about the film?

I tried to narrate a beautiful story in the movie. I cannot give elevations to Suhas, and it is important that I understand my actor’s body language. Initially, the film had a fight sequence, but I later changed it. The movie is about a middle-class guy in Vijayawada who wants to make big in life. Did he achieve it, and what situations he faced in this regard forms part of the story.

Can you talk about Suhas’s performance?

I have been traveling with Suhas for a long time, and it is difficult to talk about his performance. He always comes an hour early to the sets. That helped me a lot while filming. We discuss a lot before going to the shooting process, and I had the bound script with me.

Do you think Suhas’s image is an advantage for the film?

It is very much a big advantage for us. He focuses on content always, and these days audience tastes have also changed. We are talking about Malayalam content, and I always give priority to content. While writing the plot, I do it by myself. After that, others will start working on it, and I will take their suggestions.
