After COVID-19, remakes aren’t faring well, and especially, many Hindi remakes have tanked at the box office. But Ajay Devgn scored two hits with remakes: Drishyam 2 and Shaitaan. Ajay Devgn’s last release, Bholaa, ended up as a failure, but with Shaitaan, Bollywood’s Mass Maharaj made a terrific comeback, solidifying his position among the audience.
What is even more remarkable is that a film like Shaitaan generally attracts audiences in metro cities, but this movie is doing phenomenal business in mass centers as well, thanks to Ajay Devgn’s crowd-pulling capacity. With Sunday’s collection, Shaitaan crossed the 100 crores nett mark at the Indian box office.
This is the second movie of the star actor to cross the 100 crores mark after COVID, and this is Ajay Devgn’s 14th film to cross this landmark. Before the film’s trailer, no one expected this kind of performance, but things changed big time after a very good trailer cut.
A few expected that Shaitaan wouldn’t achieve big numbers due to its genre, but the movie proved the naysayers wrong. With no big releases in the next three weeks, Shaitaan should easily cross 150 crores nett as well. What’s even more interesting is that Shaitaan remained the first choice for moviegoers despite new releases like Yodha and Bastar: The Naxal Story. Madhavan, Jyotika, and Janki Bodiwala played vital roles.
