Amid OTT censorship demands, I&B minister makes crucial statements

OTT platforms have gained enormously due to the pandemic. The public is also keen on watching films on OTTs than in theatres these days. Hence the theatre business has got affected to an extent. But the complaint from the public is that there has been way too much adult content and vulgarity on these digital platforms.

Due to few movies and shows, there has been a demand for censorship of content on OTT. Information & Broadcast Minister Anurag Thakur has passed some crucial statements in this regard now. Addressing the media, Anurag Thakur said that profanity could not be tolerated in the name of creativity.

He stated that the central government is very serious regarding the rising obscenity on OTTs. However, the minister stated that most of the complaints would be solved at the producer level, and the government would take up only a few.

“If a complaint reaches the government, then strict action would be taken,” said the honorable minister. Anurag Thakur further remarked that the government would not think twice about making some crucial changes in the rules if obscenity crosses the line.
