Maverick director James Cameron created a sensation of sorts with Avatar, which is still the highest-grossing film in the world. The second installment, Avatar: The Way of Water, is now the third highest-grossing film in the world with about $2.3 billion. Avatar 2 didn’t receive unanimous word of mouth like the first part, but it had a splendid long run, taking the trade pundits by surprise.
James Cameron, along with Avatar’s lead cast, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, participated in the D23 expo, where they revealed the official title of the third part as Avatar: Fire and Ash. James Cameron didn’t unveil any footage from Avatar 3, but he depicted a concept art. Cameron stated that Avatar 3 is an insane adventure and that it will be a feast for the eyes.
The sensational filmmaker, however, made it clear that Avatar 3 will have higher emotional stakes than ever before. According to a report in Hollywood media, Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash were meant to be a single film, but as there was too much material, James Cameron divided it into two parts. Avatar: Fire and Ash will open in cinemas on December 19, 2025.
