After a dull Eid season, Bollywood scored a hit with Rajkummar Rao’s Srikanth. The actor’s other release, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, is also doing decent business at the ticket windows. Now a horror comedy film titled Munjya has hit the screens, and it has sprung a surprise at the box office by collecting 4.21 crores nett on the first day. These numbers include the previews on Thursday.
What’s impressive is that Munjya doesn’t have any big stars, yet it managed to attract audiences. It is the fourth film in the Maddock Supernatural Universe after Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya. It centers on the legend of Munjya, and the makers created this Munjya character using CGI. The smart ticket pricing strategy and the impressive trailer helped the film achieve a fair opening.
There has always been a strong demand for horror films in Bollywood, and Munjya has effectively tapped into this market. As Munjya took a solid start, we can expect an earth-shattering opening for the much-awaited horror comedies Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Stree 2, which will be released later this year.
As the word of mouth is also positive, Munjya collections are expected to grow over the weekend. The movie stars Sharvari Wagh, Abhay Verma, Mona Singh, Sathyaraj, and Suhas Joshi in crucial roles. Marathi filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar directed this supernatural comedy, which is jointly produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik.
