In an exciting announcement, the Film Federation of India (FFI) has declared director Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. After evaluating a diverse array of films from various industries, FFI chose Laapataa Ladies, standing out among notable contenders like Kalki 2898 AD, Hanu-Man, and Mangalavaaram from Tollywood.
Produced by Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan, and Jyoti Deshpande, this charming film showcases fresh talent, featuring Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastav, and Prathibha Ranta in lead roles, alongside seasoned actors Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Abhay Dubey in supporting roles. The Hindi film has garnered significant praise since its OTT release, resonating with both Indian and international audiences.
Reflecting on this prestigious selection, director Kiran Rao shared, “It would be a dream come true if Laapataa Ladies reaches the Oscars. It’s a journey, and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Ultimately, I believe the best film will prevail.”
