Three decades after its cinematic debut, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) continues to make history. The beloved Bollywood classic will now be immortalised with a bronze statue of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol – depicting their iconic pose – set to be unveiled at Leicester Square in London.
This marks a major milestone: DDLJ becomes the first Indian film to be honored with a statue at the historic square, joining the ranks of global cinema legends like Harry Potter, Mr. Bean, Mary Poppins, Gene Kelly, and Laurel & Hardy.
The statue will be placed outside the Odeon cinema on the eastern terrace of Leicester Square, a location that briefly appears in the film during a key scene where Raj (SRK) and Simran (Kajol) first meet.
Directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner, DDLJ was a blockbuster that redefined Bollywood romance. Its influence still resonates with audiences worldwide, even 30 years on.
Adding to the celebration, Aditya Chopra’s stage adaptation, Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical, is set to premiere at the Manchester Opera House from May 29 to June 21, 2025. Featuring 18 original songs by Vishal & Sheykhar and lyrics by Nell Benjamin, the musical reimagines the story for a new generation. From silver screen to bronze statue – and soon, to the global stage – DDLJ’s legacy lives on.
