British actor Dev Patel has become a noted face among Indian audiences with the film Slumdog Millionaire. He made his directorial debut with the film Monkey Man (shot in English). The movie received a positive response from critics and is doing well at the box office. But its Indian release is clouded with uncertainty.
Those who saw the film are raving about it. However, there are reports that Monkey Man is banned in India because the CBFC board didn’t know what to do with the film due to its violent content and religious theme.
A new report in Bollywood media has mentioned that all those reports claiming the film’s ban in India are untrue. “The release date is not announced since the film is yet to complete the censor process. CBFC officials haven’t seen the film. Universal Pictures (Distributor of Monkey Man) applied for the certificate, but there have been multiple holidays lately, hence the delay. Not just Monkey Man, but even other films are undergoing the same issue,” stated the report.
It was further mentioned that the release would happen in May as the team wanted to do a promotional campaign for about 7-10 days. The film follows the story of a young man who unleashes a vengeance campaign against corrupt leaders. The movie also stars Vipin Sharma, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sharlto Copley, and Sikandar Kher in crucial roles.
