The National Award-winning Tamil actor-director duo, Dhanush and Vetrimaaran, joined forces for the intense period gangster drama, Vada Chennai, in 2018. Made with a budget of about Rs 60 crore, the film not only ended up being Dhanush’s highest grosser till that point, but it also earned cult status for various reasons.
Vada Chennai was supposed to be released as a two-part franchise. Following the first installment’s release, both Dhanush and Vetrimaaran announced their plans to reunite for the film’s sequel. However, there seems to be a major revamp in the film’s cast and crew.
As per the latest buzz in Kollywood circles, Vada Chennai 2 will not feature Dhanush. Furthermore, the film will not be directed by Vetrimaaran, but his Assistant Director, Karthikeyan, will be helming the project, with Vetrimaaran’s production house backing it. An official announcement is expected once the makers finalize the film’s cast. Also starring popular actors Andrea Jeremiah, Aishwarya Rajesh, Ameer, and others in lead roles, the film was produced by Dhanush, Vetrimaaran, and Lyca Productions’ Subaskaran.
