For the past few months, there have been complaints from audiences about the over-the-top ticket prices. Very recently, Pushpa 2 was permitted heavy ticket rate hikes in both Telugu states. Even with good word of mouth, the film struggled a bit, especially in Andhra Pradesh. After the ticket rates were brought down, the movie once again picked up the pace at the box office.
This goes on to show the effect of ticket prices on a film’s collection. Now that Pushpa 2’s run is nearing completion, all eyes are on the next biggie, Game Changer, headlined by Ram Charan. Since it is a tent-pole film, ticket prices will obviously be enhanced, but we need to see to what extent those hikes will be allowed.
The film is releasing during Sankranthi, the season that brings more audience to the theatres. Hence, it will be best not to have massive hikes, as reasonable prices will get even more footfalls. If the film turns out to be good, it can create havoc at the box office with affordable rates. There will be huge competition for Sankranthi every year, and the situation is the same this year.
Hence, the makers should think twice before deciding on the pricing strategy. If the film exceeds expectations, there will be repeat audience, too. Very recently, Andhra Pradesh Exhibitors Sector Chairman T.S. Ram Prasad supported Revanth Reddy’s decision regarding ticket prices and requested the Andhra Pradesh government to follow the same.
The decision that will be taken by the Game Changer team will indirectly have an impact on the other two Sankranthi releases. Directed by Shankar, this political action drama features Kiara Advani as the female lead. Thaman is the music composer.
