Interesting: Japan was the initial title for this Tamil blockbuster

We previously reported about the kind of dream run Kollywood film Lubber Pandhu is having in Tamil Nadu. The movie, headlined by Harish Kalyan, was released alongside five other Tamil films. Despite the heavy competition, Lubber Pandhu struck a chord with the audience. For the third weekend, the movie was allotted 450 screens in Tamil Nadu. Till now, the movie collected around Rs. 25 crores from the Tamil Nadu box office.

Interestingly the film was released only in just 250 screens. Due to the amazing response, the showcasing was increased in all territories. Directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, the sports drama set against cricket backdrop also features Dinesh Attakathi and Swasika in other important roles. In a recent interview, producer Lakshman revealed that the film’s initial title was “Japan.”

Lakshman said, “The Director initially approached me with a cricket-based script. He wanted to name the film, Japan. Upon hearing that title, I got excited. Japan is known for quality, and the protagonist in the film is known for his quality cricket shots. Hero is 40 years old and also has a daughter. She falls in love with the guy who is the protagonist’s nemesis in cricket. The way I was drawn into the script was amazing.”

Lakshman further added, “I was very impressed with the storyline. I gave my nod instantly and told the director to develop the script. The rights to the title ‘Japan’ were with the director’s friend’s company, but they forgot to renew it. By that time, Dream Warrior Pictures had already bought the rights and they used that title for Karthi and Raju Murugan’s film. Hence we had to come up with different title.”
