The movie skipped the theatrical release due to COVID-19 and was released directly on OTT. The real-life father and son impressed big time with their performances. It is their chemistry that made the film a solid hit on OTT.

But do you know that Mahaan’s idea was first narrated to Superstar Rajinikanth? The same was revealed by the film’s director, Karthik Subbaraj, in a recent interview. The director stated that he initially pitched Mahaan’s idea to Rajini. Karthik Subbaraj further revealed that he also narrated Jigarthanda Double X’s concept to Thalaivar.

“Those two films were just at the basic level when I pitched the idea to Rajinikanth sir. After their release, sir asked me why I didn’t tell him the entire story. I told him about Mahaan’s idea right after Petta,” said Karthik Subbaraj. Out of these two films, Mahaan perfectly suits Rajini’s stardom and charisma. Had he been part of Mahaan, it would have been a massive blockbuster at the ticket windows.
