Kalki 2898 AD: Hindi version headed for a 100 crores finish in the first weekend

Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD is going great guns at the box office. The mythological sci-fi entertainer directed by Nag Ashwin received a positive response from critics, and word of mouth has also been no different. If a movie that is marketed as a PAN-Indian flick succeeds in appealing to the Hindi audience, it will result in solid box office numbers because of the massive market.

Fortunately, things are moving in the right direction for the Prabhas starrer. The Hindi opening took trade pundits by a big surprise. Many thought the movie would just attract audiences in tier 1 cities because of its futuristic theme. But the Hindi version managed to draw mass audiences to the theatres, resulting in a 22.5 crore nett opening day.

On day two, the film showed slight drops for the morning and afternoon shows. But the best part is that the evening and night shows reported better occupancies than the opening day, and the estimates stand around 21-22 crores net for the second day.

Generally, a film that releases on Thursday will show a drop of 10-15% on Friday, and this happened for the industry hit Jawan as well. But Kalki numbers tell us the kind of reception the film is getting in the Hindi heartland. Prabhas has a huge fanbase in Hindi, and this is also reflecting in the box office numbers. The projected first weekend collections of the Hindi version stand at 100 crores nett (India numbers).
