After 3 years of making, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s pan-India sci-fi thriller, Kalki 2898 AD, was released yesterday amid humongous hype and expectations. Not disappointing anyone, the Bag Ashwin directorial opened to positive reviews, and the film has set new day 1 box office records in several territories.
Kalki grossed a whopping Rs 180 crore plus in its opening day across the world, entering the list of the top three all-time highest grossing Indian movies after RRR (Rs 221 Cr) and Baahubali The Conclusion (Rs 215 Cr). Kalki has also registered the all-time highest day 1 gross record for an Indian movie in North America, with a total gross of over $5.5 million.
However, Kalki 2898 AD’s producer, Swapna Dutt, seems to be least interested in box office numbers. She took to X this afternoon and tweeted, “It’s very amazing that people are calling or asking, Did we cross records? It’s hilarious because guys who create or created those records never make films for the records. We make for the audience. We make for the love of cinema. We did the same.” Needless to say, in this age of box office records, Swapna’s welcoming take on her film’s collection is winning everyone’s hearts.
