Kalyan Ram explains why Telugu industry is lagging behind in VFX

When it comes to VFX, our Telugu films are yet to achieve the desired quality. In a recent interview, Nandamuri Kalyan Ram explained why our TFI is not catching up with Hollywood regarding VFX.

Kalyan Ram said, “We are not planning things properly. We should be able to assess which scenes require VFX and which don’t. But here, we will realize the need for VFX just before the shoot. This affects the quality. The other major factor is time. Hollywood movies are shot for about 60-70 days, and for VFX works alone, they dedicate more than a year. We are not allocating sufficient time for VFX. It is highly impossible to finish VFX works in 2 months and achieve high-quality output.”

Kalyan Ram continued, “We are correcting things from Devara. I don’t know about other production houses, but we are taking extreme care. We have researched for about 8 months regarding how things need to look. All the scenes related to VFX are already finished. The other scenes will be shot in sets. I have now given ample time for VFX work. We have created the storyboard for VFX shots in the very beginning stage.”

“We are slowly improving. Rajamouli Garu has been giving more importance to minute details with pre-visualization and storyboard techniques. Our CGI team is also getting much better. If we do things in haste, there will always be errors, and hence, we must give more time to the Visual Effects team,” stated Kalyan Ram.
