Mollywood stalwart Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-talked-about pan-India action drama, L2E Empuraan, ran into a huge controversy upon its theatrical release. Several religious outfits across the country raised objections over the alleged inappropriate portrayal of certain real-life incidents and characters.
Following the controversy, team L2E Empuraan voluntarily underwent a re-censor, and the CBFC has suggested as many as 24 cuts amounting to nearly 2 minutes of screentime. All the controversial shots and signages, including the thanks card for senior Malayalam actor and BJP’s lone MP in Kerala, Suresh Gopi. The re-censored version will be screened in cinemas across the country from tomorrow or the day after.
L2E Empuraan is a sequel to the blockbuster 2019 action drama, Lucifer, which had Mohanlal in a lead role under Prithviraj Sukumaran’s direction. The sequel has become a huge blockbuster and has grossed over Rs 200 crore at the global box office. Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Abhimanyu Singh, and others played prominent roles in this high-budget entertainer. Antony Perumbavoor, Subaskaran Allirajah, and Gokulam Gopalan jointly bankrolled the project.
