Mohanlal reacts to Barroz 3D’s poor box office reception

Mollywood superstar Mohanlal made his directorial debut with Barroz 3D, the most expensive film in his career and the history of Malayalam cinema. Released this Christmas, the film struggled to attract audiences and underperformed at the box office, receiving a lukewarm response.

In a recent interview with a leading news portal, Mohanlal expressed that the film’s performance was not about numbers (money) but creating something special for his audience. He described it as a gift and a gesture of gratitude for the love and support he has received over the past 47 years. He also emphasised that Barroz was a family-friendly film meant to be enjoyed by children and adults alike, with the intention of awakening the child within everyone.

In another interview, Dr. Sharon Thomas, the marketing head of Barroz 3D, revealed that the film was made on a staggering budget of ₹150 crores – the highest ever for a Malayalam film. Despite its grand scale and Mohanlal’s vision, the movie failed to generate the buzz needed to draw large crowds and struggled in most regions where it was released.

While the film may not have met expectations at the box office, Mohanlal’s sentiments behind the project reflect his enduring love and appreciation for his fans.
