L2: Empuraan, the highly anticipated Malayalam sequel to Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was released on Thursday and has sparked controversy due to certain scenes.

In response, Mohanlal issued a statement yesterday, assuring that changes would be made to avoid hurting anyone’s sentiments. Reports indicate that the re-censored version includes 17 cuts, removing the controversial scenes and reducing the runtime by two minutes. Additionally, the villain’s name has been changed. This revised version will be screened starting today.

Despite the controversy and mixed to positive reviews, Empuraan continues to dominate the box office. It remains to be seen how the film sustains its success amid the ongoing discussions.
