Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s recently released pan-India action thriller, L2 Empuraan, has scripted history. Directed by popular Mollywood star Prithviraj Sukumaran, who also played a crucial role in the movie, L2E has become the first-ever Malayalam movie to enter the Rs 100 crore club.
Mohanlal took to X this afternoon and wrote, “100 crores+ world wide theatrical share! First time in the history of Malayalam cinema!” Lalettan also added the hashtags #L2E and #Empuraan in his post. Released on March 27 amid sky-high expectations, L2E became a huge blockbuster and has earned over Rs 230 crore gross so far at the global box office.
L2: Empuraan also features Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Indrajith Sukumaran, and others in lead roles. The film became controversial upon its theatrical release. However, the makers opted for a re-censor and deleted the controversial visuals. Antony Perumbavoor, Lyca Subaskaran, and Gokulam Gopalan jointly bankrolled this sequel to the 2019 blockbuster action drama, Lucifer.
