Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai 2 has hit the screens recently. This sequel is headlined by Vijay Sethupathi and Manju Warrier in the key roles. The first part was both critical and commercial success. Hence, everyone thought the second installment would have a solid run. Along with Viduthalai 2, Hollywood biggie Mufasa: The Lion King was also released simultaneously.
Both Viduthalai 2 and Mufasa had a good first weekend in Tamil Nadu, with the former having a solid lead over the latter. This was expected, but now the situation has completely changed in this territory as Mufasa has started to take the lead on weekdays. Vetrimaaran’s film slowed down considerably while Mufasa is showing a solid hold.
Going by the trend Mufasa’s Tamil Nadu collection might be on par with Viduthalai 2 by the end of its run. So far the Hollywood biggie collected about Rs. 25 crores gross in Tamil Nadu, while Viduthalai 2 raked in about Rs. 35 crores. Apart from Tamil Nadu, Viduthalai 2 has crashed everywhere, and it seems the movie didn’t meet the expectations of audience.
