Pushpa 2 is smashing the Bollywood box office left, right, and center, emerging as a new industry. It has been three weeks since the film was released, yet it is showing no signs of slowdown in the Hindi market. Given the sensational run of Pushpa 2, trade pundits predicted that the Allu Arjun starrer might collect more than the latest Bollywood film, Baby John, on the Christmas holiday.
The predictions turned out to be accurate, as Pushpa 2, on its day 21, posted bigger numbers than Baby John, which hit the screens yesterday. The Tollywood sequel earned over Rs. 15 crores nett, utilizing the holiday to the fullest advantage, while Baby John took an underwhelming start by raking in just Rs. 11.25 crores nett.
Baby John is the official adaptation of Thalapathy Vijay’s superhit Theri. Apart from one or two films, remakes haven’t been faring well in Bollywood after the pandemic. Baby John’s below-par opening can be attributed to the change in the audience’s perception towards remakes in this OTT era.
The disappointing news is that the Varun Dhawan starrer dropped significantly today, while Pushpa 2 is maintaining a solid hold. Till now, Pushpa 2 has earned Rs. 731 crores nett and is racing towards the Rs. 800 crore mark.
