Released in 1991, the iconic gangster drama also featured Malayalam stalwart Mammootty in a lead role. Thalapathi was a massive blockbuster at the box office.

As per the latest updates, Thalapathi is gearing up for a grand re-release in cinemas across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The film will be hitting theaters on December 12, 2024, to coincide with Rajinikanth’s 74th birthday. It was earlier reported that Rajini and Mani Ratnam might reunite once again, and an official announcement is expected to be out on Rajini’s birthday.
Also starring Shobana, Arvind Swamy, Amrish Puri, Bhanu Priya, Srividya, and Geetha in pivotal roles, Thalapathi has a timeless soundtrack composed by the legendary Ilayaraaja. Popular Tamil producer, distributor, and exhibitor Subbiah Shanmugham has acquired the rights to re-release Thalapathi.
