Visionary Tollywood director SS Rajamouli is currently deeply involved in location scouting for his next big movie with Mahesh Babu, tentatively titled SSMB 29. Meanwhile, Rajamouli and his RRR team have released a documentary titled RRR: Behind & Beyond, which showcases the behind-the-scenes journey and the film’s path to the Oscars.
When the documentary was announced, many assumed it would be available on an OTT platform. However, the makers surprised everyone by choosing a theatrical release as the initial medium to showcase their work. Released on December 20, 2024, in select theaters in India, the documentary, with a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes, failed to garner much response, as audiences were reluctant to watch behind-the-scenes content in theatres.
Realising this, the RRR team quickly adapted and released the documentary on Netflix. Starting today, it is available for streaming and features insights from director Rajamouli, leads Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, Rama Rajamouli, MM Keeravani, and others who contributed to the film.
Despite its lukewarm reception in theatres, it remains to be seen how the documentary will perform on Netflix and capture the audience’s attention. In the meantime, it was also released in select theatres in the USA. Stay tuned for more updates on OTT and theatrical releases.
