Though Bollywood had a few hits this year, a massive blockbuster is yet to come. From the early looks of it, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2 might become the biggest blockbuster of Hindi cinema this year till the arrival of Diwali biggies. There was a surreal buzz around Stree 2 right from the word go, and with the fantastic theatrical trailer and captivating songs, the hype escalated to new heights.
Stree 2 is all set to become Bollywood’s biggest opener in 2024, overtaking Fighter and Kalki 2898 AD. According to the latest data, this Amar Kaushik’s directorial sold more than 1.2 lakh tickets in national chains (PIC—PVR, INOX, Cinepolis) for the opening day. Going by the current trend, the horror comedy may finish in the north of 3 lakhs in these three chains.
This excludes the paid previews, and if we include them, the total ticket sales in PIC surpassed 1.5 lakhs. Stree 2 is expected to clock around 30-35 crores nett on the opening day (excluding special premiers). If the movie gets positive talk, then the opening day number might even touch 40 crores nett. Regardless of reports and reviews, Stree 2 will cash in on the long weekend advantage.
Kalki 2898 AD had a fantabulous long run in the Hindi heartland, putting an end to the dry spell at the box office. Given the unprecedented hype of Stree 2, the movie is guaranteed a phenomenal long run, provided it is entertaining. Stree 2 is part of the Maddock Supernatural Universe. Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee played pivotal roles.
