Stree 2, the horror-comedy sequel that stormed the global box office with an impressive Rs. 880 crore collection, has officially become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024. Featuring a powerhouse cast led by Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Pankaj Tripathi, the film’s success has been widely celebrated. However, a recent controversy is threatening to overshadow the film’s achievements-one that has left Shraddha Kapoor’s fans furious.

In a recent interview, director Amar Kaushik made remarks about Shraddha’s casting that many fans have deemed disrespectful and dismissive. Recalling how she was brought on board, Kaushik shared that producer Dinesh Vijan suggested her for the role, saying, “Her laugh is like that of a witch or a ghost-something like that.” He further added, “When I met Shraddha, the first thing I asked her to do was laugh.”

The director’s comments quickly sparked outrage online. Fans took to social media, accusing Kaushik of belittling Shraddha’s contribution to the franchise. Many pointed out that she has been the face of Stree from the very beginning and played a pivotal role in the film’s massive success.

“Calling her ‘a ghost’ so casually after the film grossed Rs. 880 crores? That’s plain disrespectful,” one user wrote. Another fan added, “She helped carry the film-how can the director downplay that?”

As the backlash continues to grow, both Shraddha Kapoor and Amar Kaushik have remained silent. With mounting pressure from fans, all eyes are now on the duo to see whether they will address the controversy.
