Composed by Anirudh Ravichander and written and sung by Dhanush, ‘Kolaveri Di’, the first pan-international viral song from South India, gave a huge boost to the movie ‘3’ ahead of its theatrical release in March 2012. Star heroine Shruti Haasan played Dhanush’s wife in this Aishwarya Rajinikanth directorial. Surprisingly, 3 ended up being a huge flop in cinemas across the world, including the twin Telugu states.
However, Telugu movie lovers proved their true love for cinema and made 3 a smash hit when the film had a re-release twice across the twin Telugu states. In a never-before feat, 3’s Telugu version had its re-release for the third time in cinemas across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana today (Sept 14). As expected, the film is registering solid openings at the box office.
As per the latest trade reports, the 9 AM shows of 3’s Telugu version have collected a solid Rs 36 lakhs from 59 shows in AP and Telangana. Telugu movie lovers have proven to be the most cinema-loving audience yet again by making 20 of the 59 shows houseful. This is a remarkable feat, especially when three new Telugu movies, Malayalam movie ARM, Nani’s Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, and Thalapathy Vijay’s The GOAT – are currently playing in most cinemas across AP and Telangana
