Tamil blockbuster opens on a poor note in Telugu

Vishal’s 12-year-old film Madha Gaja Raja has finally hit the big screens during Pongal 2025. The failure of Ram Charan’s Game Changer and the lack of big releases in Kollywood helped this madcap entertainer significantly. Directed by Sundar C, the movie collected over Rs. 50 crores gross at the Tamil Nadu box office.

To make more bucks, the makers released this fun entertainer in Telugu. The dubbed version hit the screens yesterday but it opened to poor occupancies everywhere. Even in a highly revenue-generating area like Uttarandhra, Madha Gaja Raja saw a low turnout. Venky’s Sankranthiki Vasthunam once again became the top choice for movie goers.

Vishal’s Telugu market has been declining lately, and once again, his film opened to below-par numbers in Telugu states. One more interesting thing is that Madha Gaja Raja received mixed to poor reviews from Telugu media which is quite contrasting from the Tamil version.

The film didn’t have buzz in Telugu and the same can be witnessed in the openings. Anjali and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar played the leading ladies. The Telugu promotions were modest and this is also one reason for poor openings. Santhanam played a crucial role.
