This aspect is stopping Stree 2 from entering the 1000-crore club

Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s horror comedy entertainer Stree 2 is smashing the box office left, right, and centre. This crazy sequel took just 11 days to reach the Rs. 400 crore nett mark in India. Biggies like SRK’s Jawan and Ranbir’s Animal also took same number of days to reach this milestone which pretty much sums up the box office annihilation of Stree 2.

The movie will soon surpass Rs. 600 crore gross worldwide. In the coming days, the film will easily go past the 500 crore nett as well in India. However, it will be an uphill task for this well-made commercial entertainer to reach the coveted Rs. 1000 crore club, and this is mainly due to Stree 2’s performance in international markets.

As of now, Stree 2 has grossed about Rs. 500 crores just from India alone, but the overseas gross is less than Rs. 100 crores. After India, North America (NA) is the major contributor, with about Rs. 50 crores gross. Stree 2’s performance is no doubt fantastic in NA, but the collections from the rest of the foreign markets aren’t great for a film that is breaking records in India.

Given the fact that Stree 2 is made on a medium budget, its overseas performance is satisfactory, but to break into the 1000-crore club and to join the likes of other Bollywood films, Jawan, Pathaan, and Dangal, the contribution from international markets needs to be huge. This isn’t the case here with Stree 2, and the movie might end up collecting around Rs. 800 crores in its lifetime.

Recent Bollywood mega-blockbusters Gadar 2 and Animal also missed out on the 1000-crore club as their overseas collections were comparatively lower. However, Stree 2 has already scripted history by becoming the highest-grossing Indian horror film, a feat that will be tough to achieve for other horror films.
