Ticket hikes will be given only for cultural and patriotic films, says Telangana minister

Telangana Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has announced that ticket price hikes and benefit shows for films will no longer be allowed in the state. This decision follows a tragic stampede at Sandhya Theater in Hyderabad during the Pushpa 2 premiere on December 4, 2024, which claimed the life of a woman.

Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy backed the minister’s decision, citing the importance of public safety. Both Revanth Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy criticized actor Allu Arjun for the incident, prompting the actor to address the matter during a press conference.

In a show of support to the bereaved family, Minister Komatireddy met with the deceased woman’s husband and handed over a compensation cheque of Rs. 25 lakh. He further stated that ticket price hikes will only be sanctioned for films that convey meaningful messages, promote patriotism, or showcase Telangana’s cultural heritage. However, he firmly reiterated that benefit shows will not be permitted under any circumstances.

This decision is expected to impact several high-profile films slated for release next year. Producers are now left to reassess their strategies in light of the new regulations. Stay tuned for updates on how the industry adapts to these changes.
