Cinema is meant for entertainment, but when it crosses the line by hurting sentiments or portraying women disrespectfully, it raises concerns. Recently, some Tollywood films have faced criticism for including objectionable dance moves, prompting action from the Telangana State Women’s Commission.

Sharada Nerella, the commission’s chairman, issued a strong warning to filmmakers, producers, and choreographers, urging them to avoid obscene or degrading dance steps in songs and scenes.

In an official statement, the commission said, “We have received multiple complaints about certain dance moves in film songs, calling them obscene and disrespectful towards women. Cinema has a strong influence on society, and such portrayals are unacceptable. We urge filmmakers to act responsibly.”

The note further warned, “Any dance steps that demean women or appear vulgar must be removed immediately. Failure to comply may lead to legal action.”

It remains to be seen whether Tollywood will take this seriously and change how women are portrayed in songs. The impact of this warning on future films will unfold in the coming days.
