Bollywood folk horror film Tumbbad didn’t get much response when it was initially released in 2018. Over the years, Tumbbad gained cult status among movie buffs, and there has always been a massive demand for its re-release. The prayers of cinephiles are now heard as the movie is now out in theatres once again.
Tumbbad hit the big screens yesterday and amassed a phenomenal 1.65 crores nett, which is three times more than what it collected during its initial release. While fans are rejoicing this cult classic, the makers sprung a special surprise by announcing its sequel during the re-release screening.
Titled Tumbbad 2, the movie will be bankrolled by Sohum Shah, who also is the lead actor and producer of the first part. The exceptional response to the re-release indicates a phenomenal opening for Tumbbad 2. The second installment has every chance to be a Rs.500-crore grosser if it is made well.
Rahi Anil Barve directed Tumbbad and it was co-produced by Aanand L. Rai, Anand Gandhi, Mukesh Shah, and Amit Shah. Harsh K, Jyoti Malshe, Rudra Soni, Anita Date-Kelkar, Madhav Hari, and Piyush Kaushik played vital roles. Ajay-Atul duo composed the songs, while Jesper Kyd provided the background score.
