National Award-winning director Sudha Kongara was supposed to do a period action film, Purananooru, with Suriya after the massive OTT hit Soorarai Pottru. The makers even unveiled a motion poster revealing the film’s cast and crew, but in a shocking turn, Suriya opted out of the project. Later, the director revamped the project with Sivakarthikeyan, the man of the moment.
Even Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya, and Vijay Verma, who came on board initially, have left the project. For the last few days, rumors have been floating around that Vishal would play the antagonist in Purananooru, the role that was initially intended for Dulquer. In a recent interview, Vishal made it clear that he is not interested in taking on villain roles.
The word in Kollywood circles suggests that Jayam Ravi is now the front-runner to play the antagonist. According to a report, Jayam Ravi agreed to be part of this film, which deals with the anti-Hindi imposition movement in the 1960s. The buzz also had it that Sreeleela would play the leading lady.
