Talented actor Naveen Chandra’s latest thriller, 28 Degrees Celsius, was released in cinemas earlier today. The film is directed by Dr. Aneel Vishwanath, the helmer of the Polimera franchise. Check out our review to know if the film has managed to engage us.
Story:
Karthik (Naveen Chandra) is an orphan. He falls in love with Anjali (Shalini Vadnikatti) while in medical college. However, Anjali’s family doesn’t approve of their relationship, and Karthik and Anjali opt for a registered marriage. Anjali suffers from a rare medical condition that requires her to maintain a body temperature of exactly 28 Degrees Celsius. How does Karthik deal with this special condition? How do their lives alter after they travel to Georgia for her treatment? What problems do their neighbors create? What happens to Karthik and Anjali eventually? This forms the main crux of the story.
Plus Points:
After directing solid thrillers like Polimera and Polimera 2, director Anil Vishwanath brings some thrilling moments in 28 Degrees Celsius. The story gains momentum during the interval sequence. The female lead’s medical condition feels fresh and unique.
The romance track between the main leads has some touching moments. The dialogues rendered by Karthik before the marriage scene added depth to the drama. The horror elements in the second half are decent.
Naveen Chandra performs well in his role, and Shalini Vadnikatti, too, gives a decent performance. Naveen and Shalini’s on-screen chemistry works well. Supporting actors Raja Ravindra and Jay Prakash do justice to their roles. The actress who played Geetha, a girl with a psychological condition, performed well.
Minus Points:
28 Degrees Celsius has a decent storyline. However, the narrative fails to engage the audience. Despite a short runtime of just about two hours, the film proceeds slowly. There aren’t many moments that wow the audience until the interval sequence.
The story doesn’t sustain the momentum after the interval, and the narrative in the second half feels too lethargic. While the medical logic is fine, the horror elements lack proper impact and consistency. The abrupt editing leaves way to some questions. Certain plot developments feel overly contrived.
The twists in 28 Degrees Celsius are not surprising or riveting enough. While Shalini looks fine in western costumes, she somehow doesn’t come across as a typical Telugu girl. The supporting actors like Viva Harsha and Priyadarshi don’t add much to the film’s appeal.
Technical Aspects:
28 Degrees Celsius has decent production values. The songs are decent, while the background score by Sree Charan Pakala enhanced certain moments. Cinematography by Vamsi Patchipulusu is decent. However, Garry B.H’s editing missed the mark in certain scenes and hampers the pacing of the film.
Director Dr. Anil Vishwanath blends elements like medical science, horror, and romance. However, the narrative fails to keep the audience fully engaged. While the director comes up with a decent core concept, he could have executed the narrative in a gripping manner. The film works in a few scenes, but it falls short in comparison with Polimera.
Verdict:
28 Degrees Celsius has a good premise, and a few moments are well-executed. However, only a few audiences will connect to this unique yet lackluster narrative. Beyond certain interesting aspects, this thriller fails to leave a lasting impression on the audience.
