Allari Naresh’s highly anticipated film Bachhala Malli releases in cinemas today amid decent expectations. Known for his compelling performances, Naresh embraces a new role in this film. Read our review to see how the film fares.
Story:
Set in the village of Suravaram in Tuni, Andhra Pradesh, Bachhala Malli tells the story of Malli (Allari Naresh), a bright and ambitious student. However, a critical decision made by his father creates a deep rift, turning Malli into a rebellious and stubborn young man. His life takes a turn when he falls in love with Kaveri (Amritha Aiyer), who shares his feelings. But fate has other plans for them. What challenges do they face? What mistake did Malli’s father make? These questions form the core of the story, driving the narrative forward.
Plus Points:
Allari Naresh delivers one of the finest performances of his career, portraying Malli with remarkable intensity and depth. His ability to embody the character elevates many key scenes, making them memorable.
Amritha Aiyer is convincing as Kaveri and fits well into her role. Rao Ramesh’s character starts off understated but gains prominence in the second half, adding weight to the narrative.
Supporting actors like Praveen, Rohini Molleti, and Kota Jayaram deliver commendable performances. Their roles, though brief, are impactful.
Minus Points:
While the director’s vision is clear, the execution falters due to an inconsistent screenplay, unnecessary scenes, and underdeveloped character arcs.
The first half, though entertaining in parts, has scenes that disrupt the narrative flow. The second half suffers from pacing issues, and the story only picks up momentum with a few key twists.
Supporting characters, including those played by Hari Teja, Harsha Chemudu, Prasad Behera, Achyuth Kumar, and Ankith Koyya, lack depth and development, diminishing their impact on the overall narrative.
The conflict between Malli and Achyuth Kumar’s character could have been explored in greater detail. Some pivotal scenes lose their impact due to uneven pacing.
Technical Aspects:
Director Subbu Mangadevi’s attempt is appreciable. However, a more polished screenplay, stronger character development, and tighter pacing could have greatly elevated the film’s overall impact.
Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music and background score are noteworthy, complementing the film’s tone. Richard M. Nathan’s cinematography captures the village’s essence beautifully. However, the editing, particularly in the second half, could have been sharper. Production values are decent and align with the film’s scale.
Verdict:
On the whole, Bachhala Malli is a film that works to an extent. It is largely driven by Allari Naresh’s stellar performance. However, pacing issues, an inconsistent narrative, and underutilized characters prevent it from being a fully engaging entertainer. It appeals to a limited audience, while the rest can opt for better entertainment options this weekend.
