Allu Arjun’s brother Allu Sirish’s new movie Buddy, directed by San Anton, hit the big screens today. Let’s see how it fares.
Story:
Aditya Ram (Allu Sirish) is a pilot, and Pallavi (Gayatri Bharadwaj) is an Air Traffic Controller in Vizag. When Pallavi falls for Aditya, his career suffers due to a workplace incident. As she attempts to reconnect with him, she gets kidnapped. In a shocking twist, her soul separates from her body and becomes trapped inside her teddy bear. Now, Pallavi must team up with Aditya to find her body and thwart the villain’s plans. How their journey unfolds is something you’ll have to see on the big screen.
Plus Points:
Allu Sirish delivers an acceptable performance as a man determined to save a girl’s life, with Buddy, the teddy bear, as his unique sidekick. Their scenes together are especially entertaining for younger audiences.
Gayatri Bharadwaj adds charm as the heroine. Though her role is brief, her love story with Allu Sirish is watchable. Fans will enjoy the nods to popular hits like Kalki 2898 AD and the Jai Balayya slogans.
Minus Points:
Buddy struggles with a predictable plot that fails to build suspense. The storyline unfolds as expected within the first few minutes, and director San Anton’s execution lacks the necessary engagement.
Many scenes lack logic and unintentionally generate laughs, particularly during the climax. This points to a lack of careful planning during production.
Supporting characters such as Ali, Mukesh Rishi, Prisa Singh, and Ajmal Ameer are underutilised, resulting in weak performances. Their characterisations lack depth and punch.
Several scenes drag on unnecessarily, and much of the comedy falls flat. The film suffers from pacing issues and inconsistent humour.
Technical Aspects:
San Anton’s direction misses the mark, with a routine story and an uninspired screenplay that lacks twists and turns. The production values are mediocre, and some CGI effects are questionable. The editing by Ruben could have been sharper. Krishnan Vasant’s cinematography is decent but not exceptional. The music by Hiphop Tamizha is average.
Verdict:
On the whole, Buddy offers a familiar storyline with only a few entertaining moments. While Allu Sirish and Buddy (Teddy Gokul) manage to provide some laughs, the film lacks a compelling narrative, strong screenplay, and memorable scenes. The film might appeal to kids, but others can find better entertainment options elsewhere.
