Bagheera, starring Sandalwood hero Srimuralii and happening young actress Rukmini Vasanth in lead roles, is a superhero flick penned by star director Prashanth Neel. Directed by Dr. Suri, this high-budget entertainer is produced by KGF and Salaar fame Vijay Kiragandur. Amid high expectations, Bagheera was released today in cinemas worldwide as a Diwali festive treat. Check out our review to know how it fares.
Story:
Since his childhood, Vedanth Prabhakar (Srimuralii) aspires to become a superhero and save people. However, honoring his mother’s words, he becomes a powerful policeman. Thanks to Vedanth’s stringent actions, the crime rate in Mangalore comes down drastically. The rest of the story explores the major emotional turn in this sincere police officer’s life. Why does such an honest cop become corrupt? How does he become ‘Bagheera’? How does he stop Rana (Garuda Ram), the cruel antagonist who trades human organs? Find out the answers by watching Bagheera in cinemas.
Plus Points:
Bagheera has plenty of elements that are sure to enthrall the mass audience with some solid action sequences. Irrespective of the story, Kannada filmmakers always showcase the mass elements in a grand manner. Bagheera is no exception.
The scenes that feature Srimuralii as a police officer are quite good. He perfectly embodies the sincere cop’s role, and his macho personality brings in the believability factor to his sincere cop and superhero roles. Srimuralii shines in with his performance and stunts. In addition, the film has enough emotional drama required for a mass entertainer.
Young heartthrob Rukmini Vasanth’s character is good. She comes up with a splendid performance yet again. Senior actors Achyuth Kumar and Prakash Raj show their versatility. And Garuda Ram, who plays a cruel antagonist, displays crazy villainy. Ram’s intro scene is interesting, and the way he shows his villainy and some of his fight scenes are good.
Minus Points:
Sensational director Prashanth Neel, who made his directorial debut with Srimuralii’s ‘Ugramm’, penned the story of Bagheera that is not new. The basic storyline of a kid who aspires to become a superhero and a powerful cop confronting a cruel antagonist gives us a sense of deja vu.
Bagheera is somewhat let down by such routine elements. Barring a few mass moments, there are no exciting new elements in the film. Certain hero elevation scenes feel overly dramatic and remind us of the age-old temple movies. Although the duration of the movie is not too long, the movie appears a little stretched. The screenplay structure followed in the first half is also seen in the second half.
Technical Aspects:
The production values pumped in by the makers are of high standards. Their efforts to attempt a grand superhero movie are commendable. The impressive production design adds grandeur to this high-budget entertainer. Composer Ajaneesh Loknath’s background score elevates several scenes. Even a couple of songs composed by this talented music director are decent. Visually, even though the film appeared a little dark in the trailer, it looks perfectly fine on the big screen. The editing is alright, and so is the Telugu dubbing.
Coming to director Suri, he has given a decent output on the whole. There is not much depth in the story, but the way some scenes, the hero elevation moments, and the action sequences were designed by Suri is quite good. Also, although some scenes run on a routine template, the screenplay manages to enthrall the mass audience.
Verdict:
Bagheera, the new superhero born out of the common people, entertains in parts. The film is catered to mass audiences and succeeds in its mission to an extent. Those who love the hero elevation scenes will enjoy Bagheera. However, the main drawback of Bagheera is its routine story that offers nothing new and feels a bit stretched here and there. You may check out the movie if you enjoy mass entertainers.
